Surgical Treatment Outcomes for Complex Rectal Fistulas.

Abstract

This study included 119 patients with high transsphincteric and extrasphincteric pararectal fistulas operated at the coloproctology department of the Samarkand State Medical University clinic. The application of a new surgical technique reduces the intensity of pain syndrome in patients at rest by 10% and after defecation by 20%, and decreases the rate of postoperative complications by 16.8% compared with the rectal mucosal advancement flap procedure in the early postoperative period. Furthermore, the new method reduces the rate of anal incontinence by 5.7% at 3 months and by 8.4% at 1 year postoperatively compared with the traditional method. Compared with the rectal mucosal advancement flap procedure, the new surgical technique decreases the recurrence rate by 10.3% at 1 year and by 12.4% at 3 years of follow-up.
